Malaysian authorities have apprehended five men charged with stealing 85 bitcoin machines.
Malaysian authorities arrested five men accused of stealing 85 bitcoin machines. Police arrested the men during a police raid on November 2nd.
The Sun Daily reported that four men and a woman rented a building in Seremban, Malaysia, adjacent to a warehouse that stores bitcoin machines. Five people drilled through a concrete wall connecting the two buildings. All suspects were friends without criminal records.
Valued at $ 10,300 each, the machines are most likely bitcoin mining rigs, though not specified by the local police.
On October 29, a shop owner filed a police report after losing 85 bitcoin machines, Ser Serban’s police chief, Supt Mohd Said Ibrahim, told a news conference. The police then raided and arrested the suspects, aged 25 to 46 years old.
The raids took place last Saturday night, from midnight to 5:00 am local time. Authorities confiscated a car, a four-wheel vehicle and heavy equipment believed to have been used to drill through concrete.
The suspects have not yet been convicted.
